Free Agency Day 3: Updates and Analysis

Mike Wallace Deal Details

Mike Wallace is going to be an excellent weapon for Ryan Tannehill and the Dolphins next year. His contract of $60M over 5 years includes $27M guaranteed, $3M at the start of the first season, and $37M over the first 3 years.

Sean Smith signs with the Chiefs

Bulking up the defense. Kansas City will have to in order to handle the Broncos’ arsenal (now including Wes Welker). This is maybe the push needed to finally open up the cornerback market.

Vikings Sign Matt Cassel

The mediocre QB who was released from the Chiefs recently was signed not much later by Minnesota. How did he get signed before someone like Ryan Fitzpatrick? Its all part of the Vikings’ Ponder support plan. Sign a mediocre backup QB to give Ponder confidence and have him work harder.

Ricky Jean Francois joins the Colts

Another move for the defense by the Colts. DT Francois was a backup in San Francisco, but he drew plenty of attention in free agency. He signed with Indianapolis for $22 million for 4 years.

Steven Jackson reaches agreement with the Falcons

Well Green Bay’s not getting this great running back. RB Jackson reached an agreement with Atlanta today for $12 million a year over 3 years.

Saints acquire Keenan Lewis

The former Steelers CB signed with the New Orleans Saints for 5 years, with a max value of $26.3M.

Eagles sign Cary Williams

Well the gate is now broken for the CB market. Philadelphia signed former Raven Cary Williams to a 3 year contract.

Kevin Ogletree to the Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed former Cowboy WR Ogletree.

Eagles sign Connor Barwin

Nice pickup here. Barwin, who came off a down season during 2012, is a great pass rusher who can certainly get to the quarterback. He is a great step in improving the Eagles from head to toe. He got signed for 6 years for $36M

Leon Washington signs with the Patriots

The former Washington RB/Returner signed a one year deal with the Patriots. Could this mark the end of Jeff Demps and Danny Woodhead in New England? (More information here)

Ed Reed very likely to sign with Houston

The veteran safety formerly of Baltimore made a visit at the Texans today. All signs point to him signing with the Texans Friday (@AdamSchefter).

Tony Gonzalez is back for another year

Tony Gonzalez signed with the Falcons again. So it turns out he’s not retiring this year after all. Expected.

Patriots to host Adrian Wilson and John Abraham tomorrow

Could add much needed help to the Patriots’ struggling defense.
