The World Baseball Classic’s stop in Miami is finished and the results are somewhat jaw dropping.
The United States baseball team did not advance to the championship round in San Francisco. In a win or go home game against the Puerto Rican team on Friday, Puerto Rico came out on top and won 4-3. The United States were favorites to challenge the two-time defending WBC champions, team Japan, for this year’s title.
Yesterday, the final WBC game in Miami was played. The Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico teams went against each other for the second time in the tournament, and the first time since facing each other at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan. The Dominican team defeated the Puerto Rican team by a score of 2-0. The sole purpose of this game was for seeding going into the championship round in San Francisco.
As a result of their win, the Dominican Republic will go to San Francisco as the number 1 seed out of Miami. They will face the second seed coming from Tokyo, the Netherlands, who recently added the Texas Rangers’ rookie sensation Jurickson Profar for the final round. Puerto Rico, as a result of losing, will face Japan, the number 1 seed from Tokyo.
