It isn’t even the middle of the season yet, but this is a series that could make or break either team’s playoff chances. As expected, the Atlanta Braves currently hold the lead in the NL East division. But the surprising part is that the electrifying Miami Marlins hold a share of the division. Both teams are in a deadlock tie, both owning a record of 28-25. The All-Star break is still more than a month away, but this is without a doubt going to be one of the most important series of the season for both teams.
Things of Note
•The Braves are coming off being swept by the Boston Red Sox at Fenway in a four game series.
• The Marlins are coming off of their first road sweep, winning a rain-shortened 2 game series against the Washington Nationals.
• With the unplanned off day on Tuesday due to a rain in Washington, the Marlins have decided to skip Randy Wolf’s next start, going with Tom Koehler, Jacob Turner, and Nathan Eovaldi in the series. Wolf allowed 6 rums in the first three innings of his first start as a Marlin and since coming off of Tommy John surgery in 2012.
• Star players on both teams have been hot as of late. Giancarlo Stanton is still rolling as he has been all year and Jason Heyward hit two homers in the series against the Red Sox.
Game 1: Tom Koehler vs. Julio Teheran
Game 2: Jacob Turner vs. Ervin Santana
Game 3: Nathan Eovaldi vs. Aaron Harang
